He, who never moved from his native Sancerre, has just sailed down the Loire with all his kin and tonight it is his younger son, Gabriel\u2019s wedding to Ren\u00e9e Fauveau, a winegrower\u2019s daughter. Jean is thinking of his own father Pierre, who in 1714 was already a \u201cvigneron\u201d and of his grand father who also married a winegrower\u2019s daughter, in the village of Crezancy en Sancerre\u2026

In 1987, my brother Pascal, my father Georges and I decided to go into partnership. At that time I was running a big apple and pear tree orchard but I was tempted by vinification and Pascal was an excellent salesman. Helped with Georges\u2019 advice the project had to be a winner. The first vinification was going perfectly a tragedy occurred at the beginning of 1988. We lost Pascal in a terrible road accident. All our plans collapsed around us. We, nevertheless, tried to carry on.
\n1989 and 1990, 2 fabulous vintages were quite a solace. Over the years, the awards were too\u2026

The culmination of a gradual evolution, we turned to total organic farming in 2009. Not a drop of herbicide, giving up all synthetic sprays, ploughing: we had to rediscover all our ancestors\u2019 know-how!
\nBut what a reward it is to taste these new wines, resplendent in their pureness and elegance.
\nA great figure of French winegrowing, former founder of the \u201cAssociation des producteurs de Saumur-Champigny\u201d, my father Georges departed at the end of 2013, 88 years old.
\nHe was my unqualified support, my irreplaceable counsellor, he was my father and my best friend\u2026a most important page had been turned.
\nToday, Agathe, my elder daughter is joining the estate. Wonderfull! Once again we shall be 2 Vatans for the 2014 harvest\u2026 300 years after Pierre!<\/p>\n
